Two-time defending City Section 4-A champion Kennedy High School is rated No. 1 in the Daily News preseason baseball ratings.

The Cougars, trying to become the first team since Fremont in 1948 to win three straight 4-A titles, returns All-City pitcher Jon Garland Jon Steven Garland (born September 27, 1979 in Valencia, California) is a right-handed starting pitcher in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox.
