KENDA SYSTEMS ACQUIRES TEMPORARY TECHNICAL CONTRACT SERVICES
 OPERATIONS OF ESSEX CORPORATION
SALEM, N.H., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Kenda Systems, Inc., a Salem, N.H.-based software services company today announced it had acquired the temporary technical/contract services operations of Essex Corporation (NASDAQ: ESEX) in McLean, Va. Such operations, while accounting for less than 10 percent of ESSEX's revenues, increases Kenda's revenues by over 10 percent.
Kenda, a privately held concern with offices in London, New York, Washington, D.C., and New England, is an INC 500 Company (1990), New Hampshire Business of the Year (1991), and Blue Chip Enterprise Winner (1992). The acquisition of the Essex operations follows the recent successful acquisition of ZySys Ltd in London, and continues Kenda's strategy of complimenting internal growth with acquisitions in strategic markets.
Essex, a public company with major facilities in Columbia, Md., Huntsville, Ala., and McLean, Va., provides quality services and products to the U.S. government and major industrial clients. Essex specializes in interactive training, signal and image processors and human error control for the defense and industrial domain.
Steve Kenda, president of Kenda, said, "This deal substantially increases Kenda's ability to service our customers. It puts Kenda in the first tier of service providers in the Metropolitan Washington marketplace." Dr. Harry Letaw, chairman of Essex, said the spinoff of the contract services operations will strengthen Essex's ability to focus and compete in emerging technology markets. "Essex is continuing its strategy of focusing on key technologies we feel are critical for the '90s," added Dr. Letaw.
Jan Woodring, previously a vice president with Essex, has over 10 years of experience with the Washington marketplace and will assume day-to-day responsibilities for the consolidated Metropolitan Washington operation at Kenda. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
