KEMPER LIFE ADDS ACCELERATED DEATH BENEFIT TO CERTAIN-T PRODUCT LINE

LONG GROVE, Ill., Jan. 4 -- The Kemper Life Insurance Companies today announced that they will make available an Accelerated Death Benefit Rider on the New KemperCertain-T XL policy offered by Federal Kemper Life Assurance Company and the FLA-CT XL policy offered by Fidelity Life Association.
The rider allows a policyowner to accelerate receipt of a portion of the death benefit when the insured is determined to be terminally ill.
"The Accelerated Death Benefit Rider permits our policyowners to receive a portion of their death benefit when they need it most--while they are still alive," said John Scott, chairman and chief executive officer of the Kemper Life Insurance Companies. "This policy enhancement is the result of our ongoing effort to update our products with features that clearly benefit our customers."
The rider will be a standard feature on all New KemperCertain-T XL and FLA-CT XL five-, ten- and 15-year policies paid for on or after Jan. 1 with no increase in premium. It is subject to state approval. If an XL policy is issued before the benefit is approved by a state, Kemper will add it retroactively upon approval.
If an insured has a life expectancy of 12 months or less, the policyowner may elect to have 25 percent of the death benefit (up to a maximum of $250,000) accelerated. The company will charge an administration fee of $250 for processing an accelerated death benefit. The accelerated death benefit will be treated as a lien against the policy, and interest will be charged on the benefit. In addition, the death benefits payable under the policy will be reduced by the amount of the lien.
The Kemper Life Insurance Companies consists of Federal Kemper Life Assurance Company and Kemper Investors Life Insurance Company, subsidiaries of Kemper Corporation, and Fidelity Life Association, a legal mutual reserve under common management. Kemper Corporation (NYSE: KEM) is a nonoperating holding company with principal subsidiaries in asset management, life insurance and securities brokerage.
