KEITH W. BURKS ELECTED TO BOARD OF BINDLEY WESTERN INDUSTRIES; NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

    INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced today by Chairman and CEO William E. Bindley that Keith W. Burks has been elected to the board of directors and promoted to executive vice president of Bindley Western Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIND).  He continues as president and COO of Bindley Western Drug Company, the main operating division of Bindley Western Industries.
    In his expanded role, Burks will also have the responsibility for overseeing the conversion of Stamford Superior Drug to the Orange, Conn., division of Bindley Western.  John Bartlett, president of the Orange division, will report to Burks.
    Burks, who is 35 years old, joined the company in 1977 as a management trainee in the warehouse.  He was appointed controller in 1985 and vice president and Indianapolis division manager in 1987.  In 1988, he was elected a group vice president, and in 1989 he was elected corporate senior vice president and president of the Bindley Western Drug division.  He is a certified public accountant and is a graduate of Indiana University.  He also received his M.B.A. degree from Butler University.  He is a member of the Distribution Committee of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, a member of the Steering Committee of the Young Executives of the National Wholesale Druggists' Association and a member of the Eli Lilly wholesale advisory board.
