 tonight, sheriff's officials are offering tips to keep the trick-or- treaters safe.

Among the tips:

--Encourage children to trick-or-treat in the daylight. If going out at night, children should wear light-color costumes fitted with reflective tape.

Costumes should fit properly and makeup should be used instead of masks,

Children should carry a flashlight and be accompanied by an adult with a flashlight.

Sheriff's officials also encouraged homeowners expecting trick-or- treaters to turn on exterior lights and to remove objects from their yard that might present a hazard. Suspicious or criminal activity should be reported to the local sheriff's station.
