KATRON ALL-IN-ONE ET-32M EISA 32-BIT BUSMASTER ETHERNET ADAPTER SOLVES FINAL COMPATIBILITY PROBLEM WITH LOW $395 MSRP

HOUSTON, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Katron Computers, Inc., announces a 32-bit EISA busmaster Ethernet card with omnibus topology and environment support, performance near the theoretical maximum for Ethernet, bonus features and an astonishingly low price, the company says. The Katron ET-32M EISA All-In-One Ethernet Adapter is available for $395 (all prices suggested U.S. resale at participating resellers; inquiries invited).
The ET-32M supports all three Ethernet topologies on one card: 10Base-5 (thick-coax Ethernet using an AUI connector), 10Base-2 ("Thinnet" thin-coax Ethernet using BNC connector) and 10Base-T (unshielded twisted pair Ethernet using an RJ-45 connector). It comes with software drivers for most network environments: NetWare, TCP/IP, PC-NFS, Lan Manager, UNIX and Lantastic NDIS. Software automatically configures it for an available interrupt, I/O address and optional boot PROM address.
"Our goal for our All-In-One adapters," says Katron executive Kenneth Huang, "is to provide users, installers and resellers with the one right card that's going to work for any topology, environment and node they encounter next. Our specific goal for the ET-32M is to put more performance and features on the card than they'd ever expect at our price."
The ET-32M achieves its near-ultimate Ethernet throughput and performance by providing a true 32-bit Ethernet controller in a true busmaster implementation on a 32-bit EISA bus. Busmastering also helps avoid memory addressing and timing conflicts by providing a fast, wide and direct route to a system's CPU and memory.
An arsenal of features is built into the ET-32M. An on-board 50 Ohm BNC terminator obviates troublesome external terminators at each end of a network segment. The UTP port automatically detects and corrects for reversed pair polarity. Four LEDs monitor Link, Transmit/Receive, Polarity and Collision status. And Jabber and SQE Test functions are built in.
The ET-32M also supports Katron's Anti-Virus Firmware Option ($45), a programmed memory chip that plugs into the boot PROM socket and monitors PC activities from the moment power appears, guarding against boot-time viruses. The Anti-Virus Firmware Option also includes ChipAway Virus software, meaning seamless virus protection against some 2,600 virus strains for as long as the computer is running.
