were beaten again Friday night - this time by the Washington Capitals 4-3 at the Pond.

Kariya scored two goals, the second giving him his 500th NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  point. The Ducks captain is the first in franchise history to reach that plateau.

All of them have come in his 417 career games with the Ducks.

However, an announced crowd of 12,942 was able to see the Ducks doing what they do best: lose yet another game in a fashion unbecoming of an NHL franchise.

The Capitals, who had two early goals from standout right winger Peter Bondra, were the latest team to come to Orange County and feast on the Ducks.

The Ducks did make things interesting in the late going as Anaheim defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky cut the margin to one goal when he wristed home a shot with 2:44 left in the game.

However, Tverdovsky's goal wasn't able to overcome two Washington breakaway goals and a fluke goal that bounced into the net after ricocheting off center German Titov's tailbone tailĀ·bone

Anaheim (16-31-6-4), which appears focused on securing the top pick in this summer's NHL Entry draft The NHL Entry Draft is a collective meeting in which the franchises of the National Hockey League systematically select the rights to available amateur players who meet the eligibility requirements to play professional hockey in the NHL.  (which is handed to the worst of the 30 teams), has now lost eight in a row at home. The Ducks have been outscored 31-12 in the process. However, the Ducks' 42 points remain ahead of Florida (41), Tampa Bay (38) and the New York Islanders The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team based in Uniondale, a hamlet located on Long Island in Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, United States.  (36).

``The players want to find a way to win some games, trust me,'' Anaheim coach Guy Charron said. ``And we will eventually.''

The Capitals jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period when Bondra scored his second goal on the power play when he beat struggling goalie Guy Hebert.

Hebert, who heard scattered boos from the crowd, is now 0-11-2 with an .892 save percentage and a 3.64 goals-against average since last winning Dec. 17 against Tampa Bay.

``It's tough to say it's (the fault) one guy,'' Charron said of Hebert. ``But when you lose and you've allowed four goals, maybe it was the one big save that could have made the difference. (Washington goalie Olaf) Kolzig made the big save on (Teemu) Selanne after Kariya's goal and that would have made it 3-2. They come right down and score and it's 4-1. He (Kolzig) made the big save. Did we get that one when we needed it? I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)
