Landsburg, to Produce All-New "In Search Of..." Series, Re-Creating

"Hell" in Opening episode, Debuting October 4 on Sci-Fi Channel

When the all-new update of the classic investigative series "In Search Of..." debuts on the Sci-Fi Channel October 4, viewers may "go" somewhere rarely seen in media depictions: HELL. In this case, "Hell" is delivered by a highly experienced young production team -- KAOS Entertainment, headed by reality-tv professionals John Scheer and Rob Englehardt -- working in tandem with one of their idols, Alan Landsburg, who produced the hit series in the 1970s. That series, hosted by Leonard Nimoy, lasted for six seasons, becoming the predecessor for other successful series like "Sightings" and "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction."

Most accounts of near-death experiences involve people seeing a white light, assumed to be Heaven. But one man claims to have been to Hell and lived to tell the tale. A University professor claims to have visited "the land way down under" -- HELL -- while in hospital awaiting surgery. "I looked like road kill," he said. How did he get out of "Hell"? His experiences while awaiting eternal punishment are revealed in the segment.

That story, and three others ("Vampires," "the Tesla Death Ray," and "Scandinavian Lake Monsters") are in the October 4 debut episode. Hosted by Mitch Pileggi ("The X-Files"), the series runs for eight weeks (through Nov. 22). Inexplicable tales are told through re-enactments and eyewitness accounts, leaving the viewers to question their own lifelong beliefs. According to Executive Producers-Directors Scheer and Englehardt, "The show is meant to be frightening, yet entertaining, while also offering expert information to give viewers an insight into these unusual experiences."

Scheer and Englehardt have produced more than 200 hours of programming, have received numerous awards including the Cable ACE Award, and are internationally renowned for striking visuals and compelling storytelling. Even so, they were delighted with the opportunity to learn from one of the leaders of the genre. "We didn't know Alan before," said Scheer. "We first met with him at his house and it was like meeting the`King' of reality TV! I actually worked for him some 15 years ago, and now here we are running a show that he originally created." Adds Englehardt, "He is a great guy whose input was very valuable to us."

So, while viewers are in search of quality, entertaining fare, their search may be enhanced with KAOS Entertainment's new segments of a true classic. The new "In Search Of..." delves into mysteries, myths, legends and bizarre phenomena, tapping into such far-reaching topics as UFOs, ESP, demonic possession and witchcraft. Inexplicable tales are told through re-enactments and eyewitness accounts, viewers to question their own lifelong beliefs. The KAOS Entertainment production team traveled throughout the world to film the episodes.
