      KANSAS CITY POWER & LIGHT REDEMPTION OF MORTGAGE BONDS,
       8 3/8 PERCENT SERIES AND 7.72 PERCENT PREFERRED STOCK
    KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Kansas City Power & Light Co. (NYSE: KLT) announced that its board of directors authorized the redemption of two of its securities.  The company's Mortgage Bonds, 8 3/8 percent Series due Dec. 1, 1994, will be redeemed on Dec. 9, 1991, or as soon thereafter as practicable, at the redemption price of 101.29 percent of par with accrued interest to the redemption date.
    All outstanding shares of its 7.72 percent Cumulative Preferred Stock will be redeemed on Feb. 28, 1992, or as soon thereafter as practicable, at the redemption price of $101.93.  Regular quarterly dividends will be paid on March 1, 1992, to the holders of record on Feb. 6, 1992.
    Kansas City Power & Light provides electric service to about 414,000 customers in a 4,700 square mile area in eastern Kansas and western Missouri, including metropolitan Kansas City.
