K-C'S NEENAH PAPER ANNOUNCES LARGEST EXPANSION PROJECT IN ITS HISTORY
ROSWELL, Ga., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Kimberly-Clark's Neenah Paper business unit today announced the largest capital project in its history--a $50 million expansion of its mill in Neenah, Wis. The project includes a new paper machine and a climate-controlled, 170,000-square-foot finishing facility to be built adjacent to Neenah Paper's nearby distribution center. When completed, the project will add about 80 jobs to the present Neenah mill employment of 364.
Wayne R. Sanders, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Kimberly-Clark Corporation (NYSE: KMB), praised Gov. Tommy Thompson for strengthening Wisconsin's economy and encouraging the growth of business in the state. When this project and the previously announced expansion of K-C's Lakeview/Badger-Globe manufacturing facilities in Neenah are completed, the company will have added more than 1,300 jobs in Wisconsin since 1985.
It is the fourth major expansion in five years for Neenah Paper, which has mills in Neenah and Whiting, Wis. Terry Kinnamon, president of Neenah Paper, said, "The continuing growth of Neenah Paper's premium correspondence and specialty papers business led to this latest expansion. Neenah Paper's rapid growth is due to our customers' strong commitment to our products. In turn, Neenah Paper employees are committed to providing customers with a level of service, quality and product selection unmatched in our industry."
The new paper machine will have a capacity of 70 tons per day and is scheduled to start up in the fall of 1994. The mill's wastewater treatment facilities also will be expanded to employ added state-of-the- art technology. Other improvements will include installation of stock preparation equipment and a new boiler at the mill.
Finishing equipment from the Neenah mill will be relocated to a new facility, and additional sheeting and packaging equipment will be installed. Construction of the finishing facility is expected to begin this summer and to be completed early next year. Kinnamon added that the project is conditional on timely issuance of required building and environmental permits by government agencies.
In addition to the soon-to-be four paper machines at its Neenah mill, Neenah Paper has four paper machines and 322 employees at its mill in Whiting.
Neenah Paper is a leading supplier of cotton content and premium sulphite correspondence papers, text and cover papers, recycled papers and other specialty papers. Its principal customers are paper merchants throughout the U.S. and Canada.
