Eager to return to their life in the Middle East, they turn to Holmes and Russell to find another heir. This leads back into the desperate years of WW I and what really happened to Marsh's nephew Gabriel, who was summarily executed as a deserter. The trail leads them to the continent and Canada and to nefarious doings by some relative who has long been planning to attain the title himself.
