When Wade and Cheryl Hudson (at right) were unable to find books for their children that reflected the diversity of black experience, covering history, heritage and culture, they set out to fill the gap. Their first title was Afro-Bets ABC ABC
 in full American Broadcasting Co.

The earliest of what came to be regarded as children's literature was first meant for adults.
