Junior seeks injunction against native protesters.


Aurora-based mineral explorer Platinex is seeking an injunction against a remote First Nations community in northwestern Ontario Northwestern Ontario is the region within the Canadian province of Ontario which lies north and west of Lake Superior, and west of Hudson Bay and James Bay. Platinex issued a statement of claim May 1 against the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (K.I.) The junior miner and the community made national headlines in February when Big Trout Lake residents protested and blockaded the property. The band council says the company is trespassing on their traditional lands without any consultation. Platinex, which pulled out in late February, argues the band council "did not live up to its commitments."

Big Trout Lake is a community of 1,200 people located 580 kilometres north of Thunder Bay. K.I. and other neighbouring Native communities have issued a moratorium on all mining and logging in A colloquial term for the process of making the initial record of the names of individuals who have been brought to the police station upon their arrest.
