Junction City caps repeat performance with convincing win.

SALEM - In the end, Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  was celebrating again, but the road to its state title wasn't as easy as it may have looked.

"This has been a tough year, especially the last two weeks because of the pressure and expectations," Junction City coach Chris Bolton said. "You go through times of a little doubt, and of course we were also confident. Put it this way, I'm glad it's over."

Junction City (18-0) led 1-0 at halftime, but then scored three goals in an 18-minute span of the second half to pull away from the Wildcats (14-2-1). Micah Mooney had two goals and an assist to lead the Tigers.

"I couldn't have pictured this for me," Mooney said. "This was my best game of the year, probably my career."

Mooney assisted on Junction City's first goal, passing to Eric Richards Eric Richard (b. 27 June, 1940) is an actor based in Britain.

Instead, Junction City got a quick score, as Mooney took a pass from Michael Zemba and scored to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 46th minute.

"I got the ball from Zemba, and I wanted to hit it down because the ball skips around here," Mooney said. "I thought if I kicked it on the ground, it might skip into the net."

Ross Eshleman took a shot in the 54th minute that was deflected by Wilsonville goalkeeper Grant Farr. Mooney rebounded the miss and scored his second goal of the game to put the Tigers ahead 3-0.

"Micah is our `Johnny on the spot,' ' Bolton said. "He is our most improved starter this year."

Eshleman closed out the scoring with a goal off an assist from Ty Harden Ty Harden (born on March 6, 1984 in Junction City, Oregon) is an American soccer defender, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer.

Harden was a regular for four years at the University of Washington, playing every match his first two seasons
 in the 63rd minute.

Junction City had 13 shots on goal, compared to seven by Wilsonville. The Tigers scored on three of their first four shots in the second half.

," Bolton said. "We have a tendency to wear people down. That was a strong effort in following the ball, winning balls and finishing."

Junction City got a scare in the quarterfinals when it trailed La Salle La Salle, city (1990 pop. 9,717), La Salle co., N Ill., on the Illinois River; settled 1830, inc. 1852. It forms a tricity unit with Peru and Oglesby. Corn, wheat, and soybeans are grown, and cattle and hogs are raised.  2-0 before rallying for a 3-2 win. The Tigers responded by outscoring their final two opponents, Ontario and Wilsonville, by a combined score of 7-0.
