Jumbo Icebox for Alpha Flight.

CTR Icebox, from TIP Europe Ltd, tel:[phone], have recently delivered a purpose-built 113-pallet Icebox to Alpha Flight Services at Birmingham Airport.

Held at an operating temperature of -20[degrees]C, it is used by Alpha Flight for storing frozen foods. This purpose-built box was designed with eight internal aisles, comprising floor-to-ceiling shelves, on which all the products are coded. A holding area is also provided where up to five pallets can be divided prior to placing products. With a full inventory at the end of each aisle, products are noted upon inclusion and removal, thereby providing an instant stock-take.

This CTR Icebox is the first of its kind. Built to strict airline operational requirements, Alpha Flight have taken it on a six-year rental lease. It operates with three Frigoblock HK25 fridge units and features a keyboard which operates the doors for security, with the doors closing automatically after 12 seconds.

The 16.5 by 12.5m Icebox has been supplied with 150mm insulated panels, a galvanized steel support frame, which is connected to a galvanized steel walkway, an air-lock entrance, and it has independent temperature monitoring.
