July 12, 1979: Stonewall turns 10.


In 1979 activist Bruce Voeller wrote an Advocate essay celebrating the accomplishments of the gay liberation gay liberation

organization that supports equal rights in jobs, housing, etc. for homosexuals. [Am. Pop. Culture: Misc.]

 generation that flourished in the ten years following the Stonewall Inn The Stonewall Inn was the site of the famous Stonewall riots of 1969, which have come to symbolize the beginning of the gay liberation movement in the United States. It is located at 53 Christopher Street, between West 4th St. and Waverly Place, in Greenwich Village, New York City.  riots. After declaring these years "the first decade of our movement," he credits the post-Stonewall years for "establishing the existence of gays." Voeller also recounts the stunning achievements made in the decade after Stonewall stone·wall
