Jugofilm.


'Jugo' is a derogatory term some Austrians use to describe Yugoslav immigrants in the way some Americans use 'spic' to refer to Puerto Ricans. Jugofilm is the Work of Goran Rebic, a Serbian who now works as a scriptwriter and director in Vienna. His film examines how the war in the former Yugoslavia destroys the lives of Croatians, Serbs, and Bosnians who immigrated to Vienna before the breakup of their nation. His major theme is how the postwar generation has betrayed its vision of a unified Yugoslavia, irrationally sacrificing their families, ideals, and friends on the altars of mindless chauvinism. The film offers some hope that the resulting tragedy and chaos may push the grandchildren to a healthier perspective, even if a unified nation now seems impossible. Jugofilm has been scheduled for screening at some American festivals:
