Juenesses Musicales international violin competition.


The Juenesses Musicales Montreal Montreal (mŏn'trēôl`), Fr. Montréal (môNrāäl`), city (1991 pop. 1,017,666), S Que., Canada, on Montreal island, surrounded by St. Lawrence River and Rivière des Prairies.  International Competition (JMMIC) will take place May 27-June 6, 2003, in Montreal and is open to young instrumentalists and singers from around the world who intend to pursue a professional career in music.

The winner receives $25,000. In addition there are second- through sixth-place cash prizes totaling more than $24,000 and other special cash awards.

The JMMIC consists of three disciplines: voice, violin violin, family of stringed musical instruments having wooden bodies whose backs and fronts are slightly convex, the fronts pierced by two f-hole-shaped resonance holes.  and piano in an alternating three-year cycle, with voice in 2002, violin in 2003 and piano in 2004. The violin competition is open to performers of all nationalities who, on January January: see month.  1, 2003, are between the ages of 16 and 28 inclusively.
