I enjoyed reading Peter Gilmour's July Odds & Ends ("Tuesdays with Mormons"). I was especially pleased to see him refer to Mormons as Christians. A few years ago I attended a program on ecumenism ecumenism

Movement toward unity or cooperation among the Christian churches. The first major step in the direction of ecumenism was the International Missionary Conference of 1910, a gathering of Protestants.
 where a local priest said the official position of the Catholic Church was that Mormons were not Christians.

I do not know where this ridiculous idea originated. It is insulting and wrong and does unnecessary harm to the ecumenical movement ecumenical movement (ĕk'ymĕn`ĭkəl, ĕk'yə–), name given to the movement aimed at the unification of the Protestant churches of the world and ultimately of . It certainly puts those of us who have friends and family members who are Mormons in an awkward position.

I am a Roman Catholic and have absolutely no desire to become a Mormon, but they do have a number of positive attributes whose example the rest of us would do well to follow.
