Byline: Bill Bishop The Register-Guard

After a three-hour hearing Tuesday, a federal judge in Eugene delayed a decision on the release of a former fugitive suspected of aiding international terrorism Noun 1. international terrorism - terrorism practiced in a foreign country by terrorists who are not native to that country

Tuesday's detention hearing, the fourth conducted before two federal judges, was aimed at determining whether Seda poses any danger to the community or any risk that he will again flee flee

Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Cardani continued to question whether Seda is concealing illegal business dealings with Iran or illegal income from a former associate now labeled as a terrorist by the federal government. Cardani said efforts by investigators to learn more about Seda's business dealings only lead to further questions and doubts about his truthfulness.

Seda's lawyer, Lawrence Matasar of Portland, continued to promise that Seda will provide more information to court personnel who advise federal judges about release questions.

In court documents, Matasar argued that Seda should not be penalized pe·nal·ize

Matasar said Seda has wide support in his former home of Ashland by people who know him as an activist for peace. Matasar said Seda was threatened after he published and circulated thousands of copies of an anti-terrorism book in the Middle East.

In accord with federal statutes, Hogan said his staff will not share the information with prosecutors who may wish to use it to file additional charges against Seda.
