) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Jelenic announced today that Journal Register Company has completed its acquisition of Taconic Media, Dutchess County, NY, from Helen and Hamilton Meserve.

The acquisition includes seven paid-circulation weekly newspapers, as well as the Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley refers to the canyon of the Hudson River and its adjacent communities in New York State, generally from northern Westchester County northward to the cities of Albany and Troy.
 Guide, Weekend, and Dutchess Magazine, which are distributed free of charge. Combined, Taconic Media has 222,330 non-daily distribution. The group had 1997 revenue of approximately $2.2 million.

Taconic Media is Journal Register Company's 13th acquisition since its formation in 1990, and the Company's sixth acquisition since its May 1997 initial public offering.
