See JRL. ) announced today that for the ninth period ended September 24, 2006, total revenues for its Publishing and Broadcast groups of $55.69 million increased 10.7% compared to $50.33 million reported for the ninth period ended September 25, 2005. For the ninth period 2006, advertising revenues of $47.22 million increased 12.9% compared to $41.82 million for the 2005 ninth period. Both periods contained 35 days.

Both total revenues and advertising revenues for the ninth period 2006 were impacted positively by the contribution of the new television operations acquired on December 5, 2005. Excluding the new television operations, total revenues and advertising revenues were each up slightly.

Note that unless otherwise indicated, all comparisons are to the ninth period ended September 25, 2005.

At the Publishing segment, revenues at the daily newspaper and the community newspapers and shoppers totaled $31.42 million, down 4.7% compared to $32.95 million. Advertising revenue was $22.95 million, down 6.1% compared to $24.44 million. Circulation revenue of $5.38 million was down 3.7% compared to $5.59 million. Other revenue of $3.09 million was up 5.9%, reflecting gains in commercial printing and commercial delivery revenue partially offset by the loss of commercial printing due to the closure of our Louisiana printing plant.

At the daily newspaper, total advertising revenue was $16.74 million, down 7.2% compared to $18.05 million. Specifically, retail advertising was down 7.0%, classified advertising revenue was down 7.7%, national advertising revenue of $1.08 million increased 23.7% and direct marketing revenue of $0.33 million was down 48.1%, reflecting the loss of a large solo mail customer.  vertical increased 0.5% and the auto, real estate and other verticals decreased 29.1%, 1.9% and 7.5%, respectively. Circulation revenue at the daily newspaper was $5.14 million, down 3.7% compared to $5.33 million. Other revenue at the daily newspaper of $0.81 million was up 46.0% compared to $0.55 million, reflecting growth in commercial delivery revenue and commercial printing.

At the Company's community newspapers and shoppers operations, total advertising revenue was $6.21 million, down 3.0% compared to $6.40 million. Specifically, retail advertising revenue was down 3.1%, classified advertising revenue decreased 2.1% and other advertising revenue of $0.05 million was down 10.3%. Circulation revenue at the community newspapers and shoppers of $0.25 million decreased 5.3%. Other revenue at the community newspapers and shoppers of $2.28 million decreased 3.5%, reflecting the loss of commercial printing due to the closure of our Louisiana printing plant.

At the Broadcasting segment, total revenue at the Company's radio and television stations of $24.27 million increased 39.7% compared to $17.38 million reported for the 2005 ninth period. Excluding the new television operations -- which recorded ninth period 2006 revenue of $5.33 million -- same-station broadcast revenues were up 9.0%. Revenue from political and issue advertising was $2.07 million in the ninth period.

At the radio group, revenue was $9.45 million, up 2.8% compared to $9.19 million, due to increases in the national, political and developmental advertising categories. Revenue from radio political and issue advertising was $0.21 million in the ninth period.

At the television group, revenue increased 81.0% to $14.83 million compared to $8.19 million due in part to the new television operations. Excluding the new television operations, television revenues increased 16.0%. Revenue from television political and issue advertising was $1.86 million in the ninth period.
