For the fifth period 2006, advertising revenues of $38.95 million increased 14.6% compared to $33.97 million for the 2005 fifth period. Both periods contained 28 days. Excluding the new television operations, both total revenues and
advertising revenues were up slightly.Note that unless otherwise indicated, all comparisons are to the fifth period ended May 22, 2005. At the Publishing segment, revenues at the daily newspaper and the community newspapers and shoppers totaled $27.05 million, down 2.1% compared to $27.62 million. Advertising revenue was $20.02 million, down 2.2% compared to $20.47 million. Circulation revenue of $4.24 million was down 2.6% compared to $4.35 million. Other revenue of $2.79 million was essentially flat, reflecting the loss of commercial printing due to the closure of our Louisiana printing plant. At the daily newspaper, total advertising revenue was $14.37 million, down 3.7% compared to $14.92 million. Specifically, retail advertising was essentially flat, classified advertising revenue was down 6.4%, national advertising revenue of $0.65 million decreased 27.6% and direct marketing revenue of $0.56 million was up 17.7%. Circulation revenue at the community newspapers and shoppers of $0.22 million decreased 2.3%. Other revenue at the community newspapers and shoppers of $2.04 million decreased 12.7%, reflecting the loss of commercial printing due to the closure of our Louisiana printing plant. At the Broadcasting segment, total revenue at the Company's radio stations and television stations of $18.92 million increased 40.1% compared to $13.51 million reported for the 2005 fifth period. Excluding the new television operations -- which recorded fifth period 2006 revenue of $4.70 million -- same-station broadcast revenues were up 5.4%. At the radio group, revenue was $7.11 million, up 6.3% compared to $6.69 million. At the television group, revenue increased 73.2% to $11.82 million compared to $6.82 million due in large part to the new television operations.
