Asher received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and graduated from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1990. He completed his residency in internal medicine and primary care at VUMC VUMC Vanderbilt University Medical Center

 in 1993. Asher received a Master of Science in Medical Management from the University of Texas, Dallas, in July 2001. He is currently an assistant clinical professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center The Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is a collection of several hospitals and clinics associated with Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
