Charlie is 11 when his father walks out on him and his mother. Within two years his father dies in an auto accident and Charlie starts spending more time with his grandfather, who was a fighter pilot in WW II. Charlie is so intrigued by his granddad's stories of the bravery and courage of the pilots that he decides to contact some of his granddad's WW II buddies and write down their experiences.
