John F. McNamara, 70.
He leaves three daughters: Maria Fitzgerald and her husband John of Concord, Beth Rigby and her husband Paul of Syracuse, N.Y. and Grace McNamara of Syracuse, N.Y.; his adored grandchildren: Brendan and Erin Fitzgerald, and Shannon and Caitlin Rigby; two brothers: Francis McNamara and his wife Barbara of Shrewsbury and Paul McNamara of Hampton, N.H.; a nephew, John McNamara and a niece, Lisa McNamara; his companion Marilyn Kirk of Martha's Vineyard; his former wife, Suzanne McNamara of Conn., and many Lawless and McNamara cousins.
He was born in Worcester and was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Anne T. (Lawless) McNamara, and the mother of his children, Karen Finucane McNamara.
He graduated from St. John's High School where he was an outstanding football player. He later graduated from Assumption College and Boston College Graduate School of Social Work.
John had a counseling practice in Springfield for many years specializing in addiction and recovery, McNamara and Associates. Previously, he worked for Catholic Charities in Worcester and New Britain, Conn. He later counseled clients in the Lowell area.
Calling hours at Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Wednesday, June 18th from 5 to 8 pm. The funeral will be on Thursday, June 19th from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
