Jets vow stadium dream is not dead.

"Options" is a key word in the Jets' dream to build a home on the West Side to remain alive this week.

Published reports that the Jets' plan to build a stadium on Manhattan's West Side are dead, may be premature, say those close to the team.

As REW reported last week, the Jets are not giving up their quest to build a home over the Hudson Yards. This week the Jets say they remain steadfast.

"We are weighing all of our options," said Marissa Shorenstein, a Jets spokesperson. "We have forged an unprecedented coalition that is encouraging us to press ahead--and that's exactly what we plan to do."

According to Public Authority Law 1267 the MTA does not need state approval to sell the Hudson Yards to the Jets.

With the MTA board's approval, the Empire State Development Corporation's approval, and a New York State Supreme Court Justice declaring the MTA was fair in awarding the land to the Jets, the only thing that stands in their way is $300 million.

Mercedes Padilla, MTA spokesperson said the agency, too, is "weighing our options."

Construction industry leaders that are depending on the thousands of jobs that will be created, are also holding their breath.

"The jets are looking at a number of options that would allow them to proceed," said Lou Coletti, president of the Builders Trade Employers' Association. "I was talking to some people today and they said the project is not necessarily dead."

And perhaps the state's funding will still come through.

"If you look at the vote, they (Public Authorities Control Board) didn't vote against the project, they abstained," said Coletti. "I am hopeful that the legislative leaders can reach an agreement and find ways to still make this happen."

But with the Javits Center now looking for a design team for their expansion, the new stadium may no longer double as a convention center.

In March, the Jets announced the backing of the Glenwood Management Organization, Jack Resnick & Sons, Inc.; Rockrose Corporation; the Related Companies, L.P.; Donald Zucker Organization; and the Brodsky Organization.

Perhaps these so far silent partners may step to the fore.

After having done an end run around getting City Council approval in the past, the football team is now considering obtaining approval for the $2 billion-plus project through city government. Although this may take considerable time since the 13-acre rail yards would have to be rezoned to allow construction of the stadium, which could be completed through the city's Uniform Land Use Review Process.
