JetFax Releases the Industry's Only 2-Line Option for it's Multifunction Machine; The JetFax M5 offers the all new DoubleFax option that gives the user 2 fax machines in one; Two phone lines in one machine creates a unit that can send and receive at the same time.

MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1995--JetFax, Inc. today announced that it has begun production shipments of the new JetFax M5 DoubleFax(TM) Option.

This new feature allows users to send and receive faxes simultaneously. Two separate phone lines mean that you can send a fax while receiving a fax. You can even broadcast on two lines or receive two faxes simultaneously. This new capability is now available as an optional feature for the already shipping JetFax M5 multifunction office system. The JetFax M5 provides a diverse office system in one compact, affordable machine. The M5 combines the capabilities of a laser-quality plain-paper fax machine, a powerful office copier, a laser-quality LED printer, a 300 dpi PC scanner, and a PC fax modem.

The new DoubleFax(TM) 2-line option creates a machine that can have two phone lines which roll over to one-another, virtually eliminating the busy signal. It's like having two fax machines for the price of one. Two phone lines plug into the JetFax M5 for simultaneous sending and receiving of faxes. The M5 gives the user the capability to send a fax to one location, while receiving a fax from a second location -- using one fax machine. This new option is a cost effective way for companies to double their fax volume without doubling their equipment costs.

Driven by user demand for products that save desk space and money, the market for multifunction devices has exploded. According to Norwell, Mass.-based BIS Strategic Decisions, multifunction fax machines are predicted to surpass standalone units by 1998. In fact, BIS predicts that by 1998 more than 3 million multifunction products will be sold in the U.S. alone, making them the leader of all fax machines sold. "More than 80 percent of our survey respondents indicated that they will buy a multifunctional device instead of a stand-alone device or to replace an existing stand-alone device," according to Judith Pirani, director of the Multifunctional Products Services at BIS.

In addition to its multifunctionality, the JetFax M5 serves as a powerful dual access, plain paper fax machine utilizing crisp LED page printing and high resolution 300 x 300 dpi scanning. The M5 features 6 second per page transmissions using a 14.4 Kbps modem, 72 page battery-protected memory, 200 speed dials and a robust 50 page automatic document feeder. The unit can also be upgraded to a maximum capacity of 750 sheets and 360 pages of memory. In addition, the M5 is the only machine in its class with the ability to upgrade to two phone lines, enabling users to both send and receive faxes simultaneously.

The JetFax M5 offers complete multifunctional capabilities, such as a 300 dpi printer, capable of printing from any Windows application and a 300 dpi copier with advanced error diffusion imaging, surpassing the quality of many dedicated office copiers.

A scanning function allows users to scan documents quickly and easily into almost any Windows graphics file format and includes both TWAIN and ISIS compatible Windows high-speed scan drivers and a high-speed serial port. The same port also supports Class 2 fax modem protocols, allowing both stand-alone and network PC faxing from off-the-shelf fax software packages.

The JetFax M5 DoubleFax(TM) Option is available in November, 1995 through Business Technology Association (BTA -- formerly called NOMDA) dealers. The suggested retail price for the DoubleFax(TM) 2-line upgrade option is $599 and the SRP for the JetFax M5 unit itself is $2,995.
