Jersey budget battle stalls Rutgers design competition.

Rutgers maintains three campuses.

Going into the design contest, the school estimated a budget of $100 million and a five- to seven-year timeline for phase one, with money coming from a mix of private, state and federal funds Federal Funds

Funds deposited to regional Federal Reserve Banks by commercial banks, including funds in excess of reserve requirements.

. With the state's proposed higher education cuts, McCormick warned that funding for the College Avenue Campus project and other initiatives could be "cut significantly."

 the project's original timeline, the campus designs of the five finalists would have been unveiled Friday, opening a public comment period that would have lasted into the summer.

Rutgers officials now say it is best for the unveiling to take place in the fall, after finilization of the state's budget, which by law must occur before the start of the new fiscal year on July 1.

Officials describe the College Avenue Campus as neccessary to correct many problems with Rutgers and the college intends to complete the competition and move the vision forward

"This project has not been cancelled, just postponed a few months," said Greg Trevor of Rutgers' Office of Media Relations.

Despite the fact that his proposed $30.9 billion budget is the largest in New Jersey's history, governor Jon Corzine Jon Stevens Corzine (born January 1, 1947) is the Governor of New Jersey. He was sworn into office on January 17, 2006, for a four-year term ending in 2010. He represented New Jersey in the United States Senate from 2001 until 2006, when he stepped down to take his seat as  warned in a press conference of "hard choices" ahead as he tries to trim $2 billion in spending as part of closing a $4.3 billion budget gap.
