Jerde Partnership Celebrates 25th Anniversary.

Business Editors

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2002

Jerde Partnership turns 25 this month, celebrating more than two decades of relentless commitment to `placemaking,' not merely creating buildings. From its humble beginnings Humble Beginnings was an American pop punk band from New Jersey. While never gaining large-scale success, many of the band's members went on to mainstream success with other outfits.  in 1977 as a seven-person office founded by visionary architect Jon Adams Jerde with a single project, Jerde Partnership has grown to a firm of more than 100 that has designed unique places on every continent in the world except Antarctica and are visited by more than a half billion people each year.

"What started 25 years ago with Horton Plaza was the precursor to the powerful vision that guides us today, `experience architecture,'" said Jerde Partnership Chairman and Founder Jon Jerde Jon Jerde is an American architect based in Venice, California, principal of The Jerde Partnership and known for innovative mall design and "experience architecture." He is a graduate of the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California. . "Traditional architecture has focused on creating buildings and objects. People want places that are attractive, engaging and provide them with memorable experiences. We make these places so that they become integral to the lives of those who go and live there. These are the kinds of the places that make a difference to people's lives and can ultimately transform the economic and social landscape of neighborhoods, cities and regions."

Jerde continued, "Today, I want to thank the people from our firm, our partners and clients around the world who have joined us on this journey. Together, we look forward to continuing this rich tradition of innovation, co-creativity and success for years to come."

Jon Jerde founded the Jerde Partnership when he was commissioned to revitalize an abandoned six-block site in downtown San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. . The project now known as Horton Plaza met with immediate success -- attracting 25 million visitors its first year -- and set a new benchmark for urban retail projects. Twenty-five years later, the portfolio of Jerde-designed projects includes the Bellagio and Fremont Street Experience The Fremont Street Experience (FSE) is a pedestrian mall and attraction in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The FSE occupies the westernmost 5 blocks of Fremont Street and portions of some other adjacent streets.  both in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. , the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , the Mall of America Mall of America (also MOA, MoA, or the Megamall) is a shopping mall located in the Twin Cities suburb of Bloomington, Minnesota. It is just southeast of the junction of Interstate 494 and Minnesota State Highway 77, and is across the interstate from the  in Minneapolis, Canal City Hakata in Japan, Beursplein in Rotterdam and The Gateway in Salt Lake City.

In addition to its renown for retail and entertainment design, Jerde Partnership is sought after by developers and city managers from around the world to renew city centers, reinvent the urban experience and fulfill the firm's community-conscious goal of creating places with lasting social and economic impact. In Warsaw, Poland, Jerde's Zlote Tarsay will bring new life to a city still damaged by the destruction of World War II. Jerde was also selected to transform the historic but downtrodden down·trod·den

Jerde remains an innovative force in architecture. The firm will once again reinvent retail and entertainment design with the technology-inspired Cybercentre at Cyberport in Hong Kong. Currently under construction, Cyperport is anticipated to secure the city's position in the global marketplace by attracting high-tech companies to the region. Cybercentre will serve as the project's cultural and commercial hub and fuses retail and entertainment with the Internet-driven business needs of the day. Cybercentre will likely become a model for the town center of the future.

Today's announcement kicks off a year-long celebration of the firm's milestone and will be marked with events throughout the year. (Editor's note: Images of Jerde projects can be found at www.jerde.com.)
