Jazz pianist plans recital at UO.

In addition to its Music Today Festival, the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  School of Music and Dance, 961 E. 18th Ave., has two concerts planned for the coming week.

Toby Koenigsberg, jazz piano Jazz Piano has been an integral part of the jazz idiom since its inception, in both solo and ensemble settings. The instrument is also a vital tool in the understanding of jazz theory and arranging, because of its combined melodic and harmonic nature.

Pianist Toby Koenigsberg will give a recital of jazz classics at 8 p.m.

Koenigsberg tours and performs regularly and is an assistant professor of jazz piano at the UO, which he also attended as an undergraduate. His most recent CD is ``Sense'' (Origin Records).

Tickets are $10 at the door ($8 for students and senior citizens).

Poetry in Song

Sunday, Beall Hall

Voice majors and pianists at the School of Music will perform a wide variety of German lieder in a `Poetry in Song' recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

The singers are graduate and undergraduate students of voice faculty members Ann Tedards, Eric Mentzel, Charles Turley and Milagro Vargas.

Admission is free.
