Javits Center project survives without Jets.

City and state agencies are finalizing plans for the expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Jacob K. Javits Convention Center is a large convention center on the west side of Manhattan in New York City. It was designed by architects I. M. Pei and partners. The project is expected to expand the Center to 1.5 million s/f, with new space extended south to 33rd Street and north to 40th Street, in addition to the creation of a 1,500-room headquarters hotel and the largest ballroom in New York City New York City: see New York, city.

The project will be paid for by a variety of sources, including $350 million from the City, $350 million from the state and $500 million that will be raised through the sale of bonds back by a dedicated $1.50 per key surcharge that the hotel industry has agreed to collect. When completed, the Javits Center expansion is expected to create $53 million in new tax revenues and thousands of permanent jobs.
