Mr. Brunner succeeds Gunnar Jarring Gunnar Jarring (12 October 1907, Brunnby, Skåne – 29 May 2002) was a Swedish Turkologist and diplomat. Jarring studied at Lund University, and earned his PhD in 1933 with his dissertation Studien zu einer osttürkischen Lautlehre. , who has served in that capacity since 1967. In resolution 242, the Council had asked the Secretary-General to designate a Special Representative to establish and maintain contacts with the States concerned to promote agreement and assist efforts to achieve a peaceful and accepted settlement, in accordance with the provisions and principles in the resolution.
