Overall forward business sentiment for China and North Asia improved slightly in March, with Japanese businesses in mainland China showing continued strong business confidence. As a supplement to the regular monthly survey, JETRO included a question in the March survey regarding the impact (if any) of continued oil price hikes on current business sentiment. Overall, less than half of respondents (41.1% ) reported "negative impacts". By country/region, 47.5% of firms in the ASEAN region and 32.1% of firms in China and North Asia reported negative impacts in the March survey. Indonesia had the highest individual percentage, at 71.1%, suggesting that rising fuel prices there continue to be a major source of concern for Japanese firms in the country. A total of 731 replies were received in ASEAN countries (120 in Indonesia, 107 in Malaysia, 209 in the Philippines, 206 in Singapore and 89 in Thailand), 236 in China (57 in the North, 73 in the Northeast, 64 in the East and 42 in the South); 139 in Hong Kong; 37 in the ROK and 114 in Taiwan.
