Guitarist Jane Wiedlin cowrote some of the biggest hits for the Go-Go's, but there's much more to her wacky career: She has also had film roles in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, released solo records, provided cartoon voice-overs, and been an animal rights advocate. Recently she surprised TV viewers by coming out as bisexual on VHTs The Surreal Life. And today? She's associate-producing songs for Paris Hilton while building a 500-acre Panamanian resort. Now, that's surreal.

How did you stop yourself from slugging Da Brat for being so rude on The Surreal Life?

Part of it was having the camera on me. I didn't want to go down in history for punching somebody on a reality show. Also, she just came off as pathetic. If she would deal with her own issues, she wouldn't be so mean to other people.

You came across on the show as being pretty kinky. Was that genuine or calculated?

The producers really wanted me to divulge my alternative sexuality, and I obsessed over it. It's not like I've ever been completely in the closet. But it's one thing to be out on your Web site and another to do it on national television. But for all the people in the world who are afraid to be themselves, there also have to be people who say, "Fuck it--if you don't like me as I am, I don't care."

Was it a big thrill to be part of the Star Trek franchise?

Leonard Nimoy directed me, and I always had a crush on Spock. I'm a huge nerd. But I had to wear this thick wool uniform on the Paramount lot, where it was 110 degrees. I had just broken up with this guy, and we had makeup sex in my trailer ... and then I had to put my stinky wool costume back on. Gross! If that wouldn't turn a guy gay, I don't know what would.

What's Paris Hilton like in the studio?

She takes direction well and has no attitude whatsoever. I'm just happy to be of service, as they say in AA. I was so excited they offered me the job. I mean, come on, it's Paris Hilton!

Band mate Belinda Carlisle posed for Playboy in 2001 to promote your album God Bless the Go-Go's. Would you ever do a skin-rag spread?

Hell, yeah! I'd do it for ... $67. But lunch has to be included. And a ride. Being scared of nudity is retarded. A lot of the things wrong with this country just stem from other people not being able to think straight.

How does the level of debauchery on Go-Go's tours today compare with the band's '80s heyday?

Oh, my God--I don't seem to have slowed down that much. I love going out on tour and acting like a 20-year-old guy. If I can get away with that, why not?
