James Custodial Engineers.

Owner: James C. Mayers Address: 1900 W. 29th St., Little Rock, 72206, 375-7536 Start-up date: December 1991

James C. Mayers says he is an example of what a good public program can produce.

He recently started a custodial services business with the help of a local minority program. The program focused on motivating and helping minorities to start their own businesses.

"My mother and father were both self-employed," says Mayers. "I've always wanted to own my own business too."

So at age 25, he has a chance to fulfill that goal.

Mayers says he has acquired three contracts.

He provides complete custodial services to commercial clients.

Mayers says he prefers word-of-mouth advertising for his business. "That way I know my good work has preceded me," he says.

Although he currently is working alone in the business, he hopes to hire employees when his business is more solid.
