He plays Joy Division's Bernard Sumner Bernard Sumner (born 4 January 1956 in Broughton, Salford, Lancashire, England, and also known as Bernard Dickin, Bernard Dicken, Bernard Albrecht and Bernard Albrecht-Dicken) is a British singer, guitarist and keyboardist, originally with Joy Division and currently with New in the film, which tells the tragic story of singer Ian Curtis. James said: "I taught myself guitar on an old bashed-up Fender and when we shot the movie it was us playing live in front of 100 diehard diehard nickname for the Scottish terrier. Joy Division fans.
