Camp in Portland is the first of its kind for girls only, teaching aspiring rockers ages 8 to 18 the ropes of performing in a real band. Famous female musicians from groups like Indigo Girls Indigo Girls are an American folk rock duo, consisting of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers. They got their start in Atlanta as a regular act at The Little 5 Points Pub and were tangentially part of the Athens, Georgia college rock scene that included The B-52's, Pylon, R.E.M. and Sleater-Kinney work with the campers, providing instruction, mentoring and, best of all ... free concerts! Weeklong week·long adj. Continuing through the week: a weeklong conference. Adj. 1. weeklong - lasting through a week; "her weeklong vacation" seven-day sessions include days filled with music lessons, lunch-time performances, band practice, and workshops on making a 'zine, songwriting, stage presence and more. The first day of camp, girls choose instruments--guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, vocals or electronica--and form their bands. The camp finale is a live concert at Aladdin Theatre, where all the newly formed bands (20 or more) showcase their sounds. The camp started as a project to satisfy Misty's graduation requirements for a Women's Studies women's studies pl.n. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) An academic curriculum focusing on the roles and contributions of women in fields such as literature, history, and the social sciences. degree at Portland State University, and was such a hit that it's now in its fourth year.
