Jacobs two-wing W23rd work wins industry award.

Stephen Jacobs announces that a recently completed project, 555 West 23rd Street, has just won a First Place Award of Excellence from the Society of American Registered Architects The Society of American Registered Architects SARA) is a professional organization for architects in the United States. History
The Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) was founded on November 9, 1956 by Wilfred J. Gregson.
 / New York Council.

Taking advantage of a rare through-block opportunity, Jacobs designed two wings, north and south, 12 and 14-stories respectively, to reinforce the east-west axis. An interior mews and a large glass pavilion that is the visual and literal center of the project connect them. A second-story landscaped exterior courtyard allows air and light to come into the middle of the complex; there is a parking garage below.

SARA Sara or Sarah, in the Bible, wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. With Rebekah, Rachel, and Leah, she was one of the four Hebrew matriarchs. Her name was originally Sarai [Heb.,=princess].  recognized the project for many design features, particularly the dramatic pavilion. Its large atrium serves several functions: it provides access to the landscaped roof terrace with a fountain, trees and sitting areas; creates a series of extensive recreational spaces; and brings tremendous amounts of natural light into the interior corridor. A sweeping, ornamental staircase descends from the roof terrace opens onto a large lounge and rec room with a huge circular sofa, fireplace, several large-screen plasma tvs, a pool table, and a gaming area. A second sit ting area is just below the main space. On the lowest level of the atrium, there is a 2,000 square-foot, fully-equipped weight and workout room as well as the laundry.

The 23rd Street facade is inspired by the best traditions of historic New York City New York City: see New York, city.
