Jacobs Receives Contract for Traffic Engineering and Transportation Design Services from Fairfax County, Va.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that a subsidiary company has received a contract from the Fairfax County Planning and Design Division of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) to provide traffic engineering and transportation design services for the South Van Dorn Street/Franconia Road interchange in Virginia.

Officials estimate the value of the project at $44 million.

For the upgrade of this highly congested signalized intersection, Jacobs is providing an extensive public information program; managing all survey and mapping services; performing traffic engineering services; and designing all roadways, drainage, retaining walls, bridges, and miscellaneous structures. In addition, Jacobs is working with the environmental consultant to the DPWES to provide the conceptual and alternative design information needed to complete the environmental assessment activities under the National Environmental Policy Act.

The infrastructure demands of Fairfax County, the most populous jurisdiction in Virginia, as well as metropolitan Washington, D.C., are exceeding current capacity. South Van Dorn Street and Franconia Road are major commuter routes that link densely populated residential areas of southeastern Fairfax County with employment in Alexandria, Va.; Washington, D.C.; and surrounding cities. South Van Dorn Street also serves as a major link between two existing Metrorail stations.
