Officials estimate the contract value at $2.7 billion over a 12-year period, which includes all options. The contract begins on October 1, 2003, and involves managing a workforce of more than 2,000 personnel who support all aspects of AEDC operations.

In making the announcement, Jacobs President Craig Martin Craig Martin (born July 15, 1957 in Niagara Falls, Ontario) is a former Canadian national soccer team player.

AEDC is the most advanced and largest complex of flight simulation test facilities in the world. The center includes 58 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges, and other specialized units worth more than $7 billion. Twenty-seven of the Center's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States and 14 are unique in the world. The test facilities can simulate flight conditions from sea level to an altitude of 300 miles as well as speeds up to Mach 20. AEDC has tested every high-performance aircraft, missile, and space launch system in use by the Department of Defense today.

Jacobs, CSC, and General Physics have worked together since 1995 as associate contractors at AEDC. As the test operations contractor, Jacobs has been responsible for operating and maintaining AEDC's test facilities and executing aggressive test and research programs critical to U.S. interests. CSC has served as the managing partner of the Aerospace Center Support (ACS (Asynchronous Communications Server) See network access server. ) joint venture, with responsibility for providing mission support at AEDC. General Physics has served as a member of the ACS joint venture. The new joint venture brings Jacobs, CSC, and General Physics together to offer a comprehensive suite of services under a single contract.
