Jacob's Pillow magic.Students of the 2004 Jacob's Pillow Cultural Traditions Program immersed themselves in a two-week exploration of African, Cuban, and Haitian dance, music, and spirituality. He and his company performed frequently at the Ted Shawn Noun 1. Ted Shawn - United States dancer and choreographer who collaborated with Ruth Saint Denis (1891-1972) Shawn Theatre in the '50s and '60s, and his 2004 return marked the 200th anniversary of Haiti's independence. Destine was joined by a faculty of Afro-Caribbean and Latin scholars, dancers, artistic directors, and percussionists. In addition to daily movement classes the Cultural Traditions students learned songs, chants, and drum rhythms, and delved into historical and anthropological studies. |
