BEAVERTON - Former University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities.  men's basketball standout Luke Jackson was honored Sunday night Sunday Night, later named Michelob Presents Night Music, was an NBC late-night television show which aired for two seasons between 1988 and 1990 as a showcase for jazz and eclectic musical artists.  as the state's amateur athlete of the year Athlete of the Year

 for men.

Jackson, a second-team All-American last season after averaging 21.2 points per game, received the Bill Hayward William Louis "Colonel Bill" Hayward (July 2 1868 – December 14 1947) was a track and field coach for the University of Oregon for 44 years, and a coach for six United States Olympics teams.  award for men at the annual Oregon Sports Awards.

Beaverton's Mariel Zagunis, an Olympic fencing champion, was named the top woman amateur athlete.

The state's pro athlete awards went to Olympic swimming gold medalist Inge deBruijn and U.S. Senior Open golf champion Peter Jacobsen.
