Jack Rudin presented with Scopus Award.


In recognition of his many years of philanthropy and public service, Jack Rudin was presented with the Scopus Award, the American Friends of The Hebrew University Hebrew University of Jerusalem, at Mt. Scopus, Givat Ram, Ein Karem, and Rehovot, Israel; coeducational. First proposed in 1882, formally opened 1925. It is the world's largest Jewish university and is noted for its work on the Dead Sea Scrolls. The university has faculties of humanities, mathematics and natural science, law, agriculture, and social sciences, as well as schools of education, social work, library and archive studies, and business, and operates the's highest honor.  incorporated in New York City in 1869 to promote the study of natural science and related subjects. Buildings on its present site were opened in 1877. Among the buildings later added were the Hayden Planetarium (opened 1935) and the Roosevelt Memorial building (completed 1936). In 2000 the museum opened the Rose Center for Earth and Space, which contains a new, state-of-the-art Hayden Planetarium.
, Jack's late brother Lewis was honored as well. The event coincided with the opening of the Museum's Einstein Albert 1879-1955.
German-born American theoretical physicist whose special and general theories of relativity revolutionized modern thought on the nature of space and time and formed a theoretical base for the exploitation of atomic energy. He won a Nobel Prize in 1921 for his explanation of the photoelectric effect.

The venue was chosen due to Rudin's key role in Einstein, an unprecedented exhibition featuring Einstein's scientific manuscripts, original letters, and other documents from the Albert Einstein Archives at The Hebrew University, most never before exhibited to the public.

"The generous support of Jack and Susan Rudin made the Einstein exhibit possible", said Ira Lee Sorkin, president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. "Yet it is just one of many important contributions Jack and his brother Lewis have made to the University. We are proud to present Jack Rudin with the Scopus Award."

Jack Rudin's unique relationship with both The American Museum of Natural History (where he serves as a board member and honorary trustee) and The Hebrew University served as a crucial link in making the Einstein archives available outside Israel for the first time. The Einstein exhibit opens on Nov. 15 and runs through Aug. 15.

Jack Rudin is Chairman of Rudin Management Company, builders, developers and managers of New York City real estate. He serves on numerous boards, including the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Colin Powell Center for Policy Studies at City College City College: see New York, City University of.. Rudin has received an Honorary Fellowship from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Honorary Doctorates from City College, Iona College, where he serves as trustee emeritus, and Yeshiva University Yeshiva University, in New York City; mainly coeducational; begun 1886 as Yeshiva Eitz Chaim, a Jewish theological seminary, chartered 1928 as Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and Yeshiva College; renamed 1945. Yeshiva, the oldest and largest university under Jewish auspices in the United States, maintains four campuses in New York and affiliated campuses in Los Angeles and Jerusalem, Israel.. He and his wife Susan live in Manhattan.
