Jack Resnick creates a new college home.

Thanks to the ingenuity and resolve of real estate owner/developer Jack Resnick & Sons, Borough of Manhattan Community College/ CUNY CUNY City University of New York  will soon have a new home just steps away from where its famed Fiterman Hall once stood in Lower Manhattan Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the island of Manhattan, the main island and center of business and government of the City of New York. Lower Manhattan is generally defined as the area delineated on the north by Chambers Street, on the west by the Hudson River (North .

The 15-story building at 30 West Broadway was destroyed during the September 11th attacks On September 11, 2001, in the deadliest case of domestic Terrorism in the history of the United States, a group of 19 terrorists hijacked four U.S. airliners for use as missiles against targets in New York City and Washington, D.C. .

Responding to the College's dire need for classrooms and other facilities, the Resnick firm has creatively carved out approximately 190,000 s/ f of space at its 14-story, 565,000 s/f office building at 75 Park Place and leased it to the School for a long term of years.

The space includes four contiguous full floors (10, 11, 12 and 14), as well as portions of 2, 5 and the ground floor. Even more impressive than "finding" 190,000 square feet in a building where only 35,000 was vacant, the Resnick firm is literally creating a "building within a building" for the College.

Besides a 4,000 s/f street-level store and a reception area and some offices on the second floor, all of the remaining BMCC space will be devoted to classrooms, except for a portion of the 5th floor which will be used for administrative offices.

"The College has been a wonderful neighbor of ours for many years and we were determined to help ease their critical space shortage in whatever way we could," stated Jack Resnick & Sons president, Scott Resnick.

Resnick employed various strategies, from negotiating an early lease termination with one of his tenants to renting space from another, to create the desired space package.

BMCC expects to take occupancy of its first classrooms this spring. The entire move-in will be completed by the fall of 2005.
