According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. . Stockland finished with 60 yards on 10 carries, and his scores came on runs of 3, 8 and 14 yards. In the last two games, he has scored six TDs on offense and two on defense for Valencia (2-0). ``What can I say about him?'' said Valencia coach Carl Zierhut. ``He's a good player and he's been in the right spot at the right time. Offensively, we like to spread the ball around, so he doesn't get 20 to 30 carries a game. ``He makes stuff happen when he has the ball on both offense and defense.'' Ray Montanez also made things happened for Valencia. The Vikings' backup quarterback came in midway through the first quarter after starter Kyle Bauer sprained his ankle. Montanez proceeded to complete all four passes he attempted for 130 yards. A chunk of those yards went to tight end Derek New for 75 yards in the third quarter to set up a score. ``It was a gutty performance,'' Zierhut said. ``That was his first time playing quarterback. He was moved to quarterback three weeks ago after playing wide receiver, so he had some knowledge of the offense. ``He's worked hard and we've tried to prepare him. But when he's out there it's just him, and he showed some confidence and great skill.'' Zierhut said Bauer's status is day to day. Fortunately for Bauer and Valencia, its road game this week with Serra was canceled by the Cavaliers and the Vikings were given a win. Zierhut didn't specify why the game was canceled. Next up for Valencia is Chaminade at COC See chip on chip. on Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. ``It's nice to have a week off to get healthy,'' Zierhut said. They drove to our 2-yard line and had first and goal and we held them.'' Saugus' first score came midway through the fourth when Robby Gallegos returned a punt 50 yards.
