The football team picked up points with the transfer of kicker John Wall from USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. . Wall started for the Trojans much of his freshman season, converting all five of his field-goal attempts in 2000.

But he suffered a knee injury and sat out the 2001 season, losing his starting job to David Davis. Wall wants to transfer back to a Division I school after a year at Pierce.

New Pierce coach David Banuelos, who already has hired his offensive staff, is in no hurry to do the same with his defensive openings.

``I'll take time to hire the defensive guys,'' Banuelos said. ``I'll try to hire the right guys. I'm not in any rush.''
