The Antelope Valley

Glendale College

Cliff Gatlin was named a WSC player of the week by rushing for 132 yards on 21 carries and scoring once in Glendale's 21-13 victory over East L.A. The Vaqueros had another player go over the 100 yards in Wes Jones, who had 102 yards on 12 carries. Jones scored the game-winning touchdown on a 41-yard run with 2:05 remaining.

The Vaqueros next play at Valley. Each team has won two in a row in conference after an 0-2 overall start. ...

Glendale men won the Bakersfield cross country meet last weekend and the women finished second.

Moorpark finished second to Canyons in a golf tournament Monday, besting Santa Barbara, Bakersfield and Citrus. Jennifer Stopka had the second-best score of the match with an 81. ...

Running back Joey Casillas became the first Moorpark player to win WSC player of the week honors this season by carrying 27 times for 228 yards and three touchdowns as the Raiders won their first game of the season, 38-21 over Citrus. The Brahmas had their first lead of the season in Saturday's loss 37-21 loss to Harbor. Pierce (0-4, 0-2) was up 14-13 in the third quarter after Junior Galvan scored on an 8-yard pass from Lorin Salmon. ...

Pierce is off to a 4-1 start in women's volleyball. Kim Carpenter leads the WSC in blocks. Tiffany Neilson is second in kills with 33, directly followed by teammate Endija Damroza with 31. The Brahmas only loss was about as close as can be, in five sets to Santa Barbara. The fifth set is played to 15, having to win by two. Santa Barbara won 16-14. ...

Pierce's streak of 11 games in a row without a loss in women's soccer ended with a 3-2 loss to Ventura. The Brahmas are (9-2-3).

Valley College

The Monarchs won their second game in a row by beating Santa Barbara 15-7 Saturday. Though the team has three Division I transfers on offense, the defense has led the Monarchs to even their record after an 0-2 start.

Valley allows just 234.3 yards per game, second-lowest in the conference behind Bakersfield.

The Monarchs next play host to Glendale. Each team has won two in a row in conference after an 0-2 overall start.
