But whatever it lacks in the power department, Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  freshman standout outside hitter/setter Katrina Valencia's jump float serve more than makes up for it in movement.

Wednesday night was one those occasions when Valencia's serve was especially on.

The previous record was eight, shared by Cora Peeler (2003) and Sara San Nicols (2004), who did it in four-set matches.

``It's a record, and records are made to be broken,'' Cwayna said. ``It's good for her and it's good for the team.''

AVC (4-3) won its second consecutive 3-0 match Friday, beating East L.A., 30-24, 30-28, 30-25.

Upbeat attitude: Football coach Brent Carder said his players appeared to have moved past Saturday's disappointing 17-9 loss to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. Saturday's loss was AVC's school record 20th consecutive.

``They know what they need to do to win and the players are moving ahead,'' Carder said.

Carder pointed out that most of the team has had little to do with the team's past struggles. The team has just five sophomores, only four of whom played for AVC last season.

AVC led 9-7 in the fourth quarter, but committed two turnovers.

Among the highlights from AVC's standpoint was freshman running back Brad Kostopoulos rushing for 94 yards, the Marauders' most productive effort in a year and a half.

Sophomore defensive lineman Mark Durant had three sacks and eight tackles including two that went for losses, and also forced a fumble.

``We just need to learn how to finish,'' Carder said. ``The majority of the game they played very well.''

Injury:

AVC place kicker J.P. Brandvig (Mojave) suffered a ruptured spleen Rupture of the capsule of the spleen, an organ in the upper left part of the abdomen, is a potential catastrophe that requires immediate medical and surgical attention. Function of spleen  making a tackle in Saturday's game. The injury is thought to be season-ending, Carder said.

: The men's and women's cross-country teams will compete for the first time in three weeks at Friday's Bakersfield Invitational Meet.

Men's and women's coach Mark Covert said both teams have progressed nicely in training since the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Preview meet AVC hosted at the Lancaster Soccer Center on Sept. 8.

``We're not going to be quite as race-sharp, but that three weeks leading into this is a nice transition,'' Covert said. ``I'm (eager) to get back out there.''

The Bakersfield meet is the first of four major events in a seven-week stretch.

``I look at it as our season starting here,'' Covert said. ``Each (meet) becomes progressively more important now.''

A keeper: Freshman goalie Desiree McKaughan's development has been among the soccer team's most positive developments.

McKaughan (Rosamond) had 10 saves in Friday's 4-1 loss to Cerritos on Friday, and four saves in a 2-1 victory over Mira Costa on Sept. 19.

``She's become a solid keeper,'' AVC coach Lemuel Galvao said. ``She keeps getting better every game, and I think the team is starting to trust her.''
