About.com offers some tips for pet owners to help their anxious dogs:

Keep pets indoors; close curtains and turn on a television or radio to distract the animal.

Use a leash or a carrier if you must be outside with the animal during a fireworks show.

Practice fire safety; keep pets away from matches and fireworks; some may try to sniff or eat them.

Take pets for a walk before fireworks start. Allow them time to relieve themselves, as they might become too frightened later, resulting in accidents.

Make sure identification is current; tags and/or microchips will help reunite runaway pets with their owners.
